What’s The Story? Music.
Whenever I add music to a storytelling program, people become even more engaged. Sometimes I play the guitar, sing and/or add percussion. Music encourages participation and often leads to unforgettable moments. I’ll always remember while telling an African folktale to fourth graders (with the energetic beat of a drum), the children spontaneously burst into a conga line! We danced around that room at least three times. And it was the boys, at first reluctant to join in, who began the dance. (Below: Scout is playing the Ukulele.)
